VHS Charity Drop: Donate Your Unwanted VHS Tapes
Welcome to our Charity Drop VHS tape donation program! Many local UK charity shops now unfortunately won't accept VHS donations leaving many with no other options than to send their unwanted tapes to landfill, which is not only terrible for VHS fans but it will also have a detrimental impact on the environment. Here's how our service works: Step 1: Fill In The Donation FormIf you have unwanted VHS tapes to donate, simply fill in the donation form. Providing your details and ideally some images of the particular videos you are looking to donate (spines are fine), and we'll be in touch. Once approved, we will then be able to arrange a FREE collection of your videos. It is essential that the items can be packaged securely and properly sealed to protect the tapes inside during transit. Please use sturdy materials and ensure the contents are well-padded to prevent any damage. Once packaged, you will be able to provide the dimensions of the box(es) so we can organise the collection. If multiple boxes are needed, that’s absolutely fine - just let us know the dimensions of each and either the total weight or an estimate based on the contents. Whilst fewer boxes are preferable, feel free to use as many as necessary for the best protection. The collection will be via courier and the courier will typically bring the delivery label(s) with them, however we may require labels to be printed and attached from your end. We will provide details. Step 2: Quality Control & Clean-UpAfter we have received your VHS tapes our team will go through each tape to ensure playback is satisfactory, and if any dirt or mould needs cleaning on the tape. This cleaning service is also provided for free. This is so we can ensure the quality of the product before listing it for sale. If a video isn't of satisfactory quality we may still be able to reuse, recycle or upcycle elements of the tape. Or dispose of it safely if required. Step 3: VHS ListedAfter we have checked your VHS tapes, we will list them on our online store. Each set sale price will be determined by condition, rarity and other relevant aspects. Step 4: Charity DonationWhen your listed video(s) are sold up to 40% of the proceeds will be donated to one or more of our selected charities (please see below). PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee that we will be able to take all videos in your collection, due to various issues, including value, storage capacity and condition. |

Does The Whole Donation Get Donated To One Charity?
We pool each sale and split the monies between 3 different UK registered charities - the RSPCA, Asthma and Lung UK, and the National Autistic Society.
What Happens To The Rest?
The rest of the profit earned will go towards covering our selling fees, packaging and storage costs as well as our free collection and other fuel costs in relation to collections.
We currently donate to 3 very different and equally amazing charities, each of which have a personal connection to our team. If there are any other charities you would love to see here please let us know.

Why Shouldn't I Throw Out My VHS Tapes?
What many people don't realise is that a VHS tape, like many other products these days, is not biodegradable. So simply dumping them in landfill shouldn't be a consideration. Over the years they'll eventually break down and leak out and potentially contaminate the surrounding environment.
The magnetic tape inside a VHS is made of Mylar, a phthalate-laden form of plastic polyethylene. It's a non-recyclable material and contains chemical coatings. If disposed of incorrectly it could be hazardous..
